Rupert House Sports Day

Every year Shiplake College sends a group of Y12 students to help run local prep school Rupert House sports day. This year they included newly appointed prefect for 2012-13 Kit Bowerin. All the students represented the College well, but Kit was singled out for a special mention by accompanying teacher Mr Rendell who reported

The behaviour of the students who accompanied me to Rupert House today was excellent. They performed their duties well and displayed a visible enthusiasm which I am sure made a huge difference to the pupils competing. The organisers even suggested that this was the best group of Shiplake students they had seen!
But I feel special mention must go to Kit Bowerin. Saddled with the most demanding tasks he spent the day rushing backwards and forwards, setting up race after race to such an extent that one might have been forgiven for assuming he was responsible for running the event. When his duties were done he chose to assist the others in theirs. The organisers singled him out with a special thank you and I would like to do the same. Exceptional dedication, initiative and enthusiasm.

Well Done Kit.

Junior House cricket

Junior House cricket – With so many rowers in the House, fielding a Junior cricket side proved difficult, but as ever the House spirit won through, Milo Taylor captained our VI in a competitive and hard fought game. Alongside 14A cricketers O’Conor and Martin, U15 B players Borg-Neal and Miarli faced their first competitive game of the season with cricket virgin van der Lely who scored 2 runs on his opening ball! O’Conor (22) and Martin (5) opened, Taylor came in at 3 (31 not out) and the rest put together a total of 82 in 10 over’s on the board. Despite some fine bowling by O’Conor, Taylor and Martin Welsh House ran out eventual winners, but all enjoyed the game and again it was good to watch a game played in such good sport.

Athletics Championships

House Athletics Championship - on a baking hot afternoon the Everett team performed really well. Anthony Miarli broke 200m school record (25.5), Anna Proctor girl’s long jump record (3.48m), we won many medals and everybody gave of their all. The Girls came 3rd, the Juniors 3rd and the Seniors 3rd.

House Athletics and Cricket

Last Friday saw the opening afternoon of the Inter House Athletics competition. It was good to see almost the whole House out there competing.
Anthony Miarli and Sam Coleman were again our fliers, with blistering pace in the 100 and 200m. Y9 did themselves proud, Ben Chambers in particular running in all three events despite a pulled muscle.

The Senior House match against Welsh got off to a difficult start, with only 9 players available to begin with. But a couple of hasty late substitutions meant although we lost we did pull off a fine fielding display to make them fight hard to reach the runs needed. Zachy Mettawa conscripted from rowing, along with other non regular cricketers Alex Turton, Chris Kerrigan all played their parts well. Ben Francis, Luke Maguire, Louis Tindall, Henry Corke, Henry Breckenridge, Teddy Hewins Cameron Dempster and Alex Sanderson never gave up and I was proud to see them handle a difficult match and eventual defeat so sportingly.

Chapel Wardens

I am delighted to announce that James Wilson and Frankie Paolella-Kemp have accepted Reverend Cousins invitation to be Everett House Chapel Wardens for 2012/13. I know they will both do a great job looking after the spiritual and pastoral needs of the House.
