Junior House Rugby

Last Saturday the Junior House rugby competition saw our A and B 7’s teams in action. It was a hot afternoon and the ground was unforgiving, but we played some excellent rugby. With no substitutes available for either team it was a long afternoon, against bigger houses, but the boys stuck at it well. Although at times ragged, the rugby was played in good spirit; with some excellent running, great defence and good tries. We came 4th overall in the combined tournament.

Blessing

This morning Bishop Colin blessed our new school prefects and chapel wardens. Pictured below are Everett prefects, Kit Bowerin, Michael Glover and Rose Parker; together with Everett chapel wardens James Wilson and Frankie Paolella-Kemp. Anna Proctor was also blessed as a school prefect but unfortunately missed the picture.

Charity Walk

A great effort from all the boys and girls in Everett House on Monday. Despite the miserable weather the majority completed all 20 miles and most in good spirit too!
A special mention to the three boys who ran the whole thing, a fantastic effort from Rory O’Conor to come home first, Peter Baker who finished second and Marcus Colao in Y9 who came in a very impressive sixth.

Senior Football

The Senior Squad kicked off their campaign on Friday the opening game saw us dominate possession and territory against Orchard B, although our concentration slipped to allow them a goal, we ran out comfortable 2 – 1 winners, Madden and Miarli scored. The next match against Orchard A was far tougher; a well drilled side put 3 goals past us. However the best game of the afternoon was against Welsh House. Excellent defence, good work up front, with Milo Taylor, Will Clarke, Jack Madden, Markus Grun and Anthony Miarli linking well to set up many scoring opportunities. Unfortunately we couldn’t beat their keeper and we lost 1 – 0. James Baker deserves a special mention for a great afternoon in goal but the whole squad played well.

Eaton prize

This morning Harry Frost received his long awaited helicopter flight. This is an annual prize awarded to two students who make the best progress during learning support lessons in Year 9. Harry was awarded the prize on Speech day with a shake of the hand; today he enjoyed the thrill of flying over our picturesque setting.

First week

A busy and full on week to start the term well, I am very pleased with how well the new Y9 have settled in and how well the majority of boys and girls have started the new academic year.

NEWS

Last Wednesday the new Y9 had an evening of bonding and challenges organised by the resident tutors of Burr, Everett and Welsh Houses. Unfortunately the overnight camp on the Island had to be cancelled, but the boys were kept busy with competitions in the pool (with a winning ‘Trawl’ by new Y9 Henry Birdsey!), followed by wide games by the river and camp fire building. They then cooked a late night snack of burgers and baked potatoes followed by the classic fire treat of toasted marshmallows.
On Friday the whole House joined Burr for an evening of paintballing mayhem. Despite being outnumbered Everett held their own in both the Junior (Y9 and Y10) and Senior (Y11 – 13) competitions. A very bruised and battered Housemaster tried his best to join in, and was pleasantly surprised not to be shot at by his own team!
On Sunday several Everett boys were involved in a Senior NCO training event for the CCF Contingent. The following have all been given appointments to lead the Junior Cadre training - Kit Bowerin Platoon commander, Michael Glover, Jack Madden, James Tolley and Frankie Paolella-Kemp Platoon Section Leaders. Army OiC Captain George Seccombe singled out Jack Madden as having made the best progress in developing his leadership skills on the day.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS

The whole school sponsored walk from Moulsford to Shiplake takes place on the 24th of September. Pupils have been asked to bring completed sponsorship forms in for checking on Monday 17th September. We are raising money for four very worthwhile causes so please encourage your sons and daughters to raise as much as possible.

DON’T FORGET

Y9 finish school this Saturday at 12.00 following the early fixtures against Reading Bluecoat, 1030 KO at home.
