UAE Sports Tour

UAE SPORTS TOUR
Several members of Everett House were part of the successful Cricket and Tennis tour to Dubai. Kit Bowerin and Harry Cheesewright enjoyed some competitive tennis fixtures. Kit prepared the following report for me ….. Tennis a squad of 6 played both doubles and singles tennis matches at different location across Dubai and also Abu Dhabi championships. First match was against Dubai College in which the 1st pair of James Bailey and Kit Bowerin managed to pick up two wins with 2nd and 3rd pair close to gaining a similar outcome.  The hosts running out winners by six matches to three. Next up was a rigorous training day at the stunning Meydan Race Course Tennis Academy, where the boys had the chance to be coached by the UAE’s top coaches. The squad then had the chance to compete in the UAE U16 Singles Open at the Zayden Tennis Club in Abu Dhabi. Playing on the courts which hosts an ATP event the team played superbly. James Bailey was reached the quarter finals and Yeem Chanthanawan and Harry Cheesewright also made the second round in the singles tournament. Further matches against the PT Academy and Jumeirah Tennis Club, played under the shadows of the magnificent Burj Al Arab, set the boys up nicely for the highlight of the tour in which Harry Cheesewright and Kit Bowerin both managed to pick up wins as a pair to finish the tour on a strong positive for the upcoming season.
Meanwhile on the cricket field Milo Taylor put to good use the training and hard work in the nets during the spring term to produce some excellent batting displays. A full report is available on the school website. He was deservedly voted Man of the Tour and showed why he is such a valued member of the 15A XI and I look forward to hearing how his season goes now the summer (!) term is here. He is a talent to watch for the future and will I am sure ably follow in the footsteps of our Seniors. His stats for the tour were a batting average of 33 and 3 wickets taken, and a top score of 62 against Rendcombe College in a Day/Night game in Al Daid.  He also made an excellent 38 not out against the British School Abu Dhabi.  Kit writes
During the Easter holidays fifteen cricketers, six tennis players and three members of staff travelled to the United Arab Emirates for eight days for a combined U16 Cricket and Tennis tour.  In cricket Shiplake played Rendcombe College from Gloucestershire and two local sides: British School Abu Dhabi and the Young Talents Cricket Academy, Sharjah School.  Cricketer’s came close in matches against high quality opposition. Milo Taylor proved the best of the batsmen with 133 runs at an average of 33.25 and strong bowling and fielding skills from Myles Everett helped bring so much extra skill and experience to the young Shiplake cricket squad and show it’s true potential on the UAE tour.
