James Martin - GCSE drama
James represented Everett magnificently in his GCSE drama performance. The scene was East London. The plot was a collage of monologues from each GCSE student. Despite the regeneration of the area due to the Olympics, deprivation and depression still exists on the streets and in the hearts of the poor and homeless.
James gave an impressive performance as an empathetic ex 'Westfield Shopping Centre' security guard who feels a sense of responsibility for the lost and lonely people amongst him. James was responsible for orchestrating one of the most powerful 'physical theatre' moments in the piece. As he spoke about the people he cared and worried for, he gently touched each motionless character on the shoulder signalling their cue to move into their positions from the beginning of the performance.
James received one of the highest marks in the group for this performance and has proved his talent for acting in fantastic fashion.

Senior House Hockey - Winners!
On a glorious sunny Saturday afternoon Everett took to the astro turf
in the Senior House Hockey competition. The first game was tense and we took a
while to settle, an early goal from Skipwith shocked us into playing a much
better game, but in such short matches despite battling hard we lost the first
game. Next up were Orchard, we started well using the wings to good effect,
alongside good passing and finishing saw us take the lead from a great shot by
Greg. Rory and Greg were proving a constant threat up front, whilst solid
defence from Oran and Chris kept the opposition out. Great play in midfield and
on the wings by Anthony, Myles and Emma again led to another goal this time
scored by Anthony. We closed out the match with another excellent goal this
time by Rory, 3-0. Harry Frost in goal made some fantastic saves and went on to
keep a clean sheet in this and the final games. Our confidence was high and the
final two games were exciting end to end battles, we won against Burr with
another goal from Greg and a great final match against Welsh was finished off
in style by Chris who broke out from defence to speed down the right wing and
smash home the winning goal. I was very proud of the whole team, Everett
triumphed as deserved winners overall!

House Singing
House singing
took place on Wednesday, a real whole House competition as everyone from Y9 to
13 had to sing! The House song was Dancing in the Moonlight, and I was
delighted to hear a tuneful performance, lyrics were perfect and the timing
spot on, helped by Luke Wilkinson whose solo in the fourth verse ensured they
all knew when to come in – Miss Rapple one of the judges placed us in first
place for this performance. Earlier in the day the soloists performed and Lucy
Collings gave a fantastic rendition of ‘Love me Again’. In the small group
round, Lucy, Eleanor, Emma, Gus, Josh, Chris and Kieran gave an assured and
tuneful rendition of ‘We can’t stop’. Bill also did his trademark ‘Gangnam
style’ to rousing applause from an enthusiastic crowd in the lunch time round. However
the competition this year was fierce and despite our best efforts we didn’t
win, but did come a very creditable 3rd. Well done to all.

Junior House hockey
I really enjoyed watching the competition this afternoon. All the games were close fought and competitive. I was really
pleased with our Y9 and 10 boys, they played fantastically, showing skill,
determination and great team spirit. Our opening game against Skipwith was
an end to end affair, neither team could quite dominate the game and we were
unlucky to lose by one goal. Next up Orchard, one of the
pre tournament favourites, this game was played at high pace, Everett
communicated well and good passing play and decisive breaks led us to run out
deserving winners 2-1 both goals score by Hassan. Hassan, Kieran and Joseph were proving
a potent combination up front, whilst wingers Harvey, Charlie and Ben provided
good ball and helped keep a strong defence with Josh; Oscar kept goal well and
Bilal proved useful coming off the bench. Our heads were up and a crunch game
against Burr proved to be a real nail biter, this one we snuck 1-0. That left
us the deciding game against Welsh, again played at a cracking pace, with both
teams giving their all, in the end a 1-1 draw was a fair reflection of the
game. The boys were delighted as that placed us joint first with Skipwith on 7
points, unfortunately Skipwith were awarded the trophy on goal difference,
Everett losing out by just one goal!

Grease Lightning
Chris Baker performed in Queen Anne’s concert – A Night at
the West End on the last Friday before half term. This was a high profile joint
collaboration between the schools, a black tie evening with music from many
musicals including Grease, Les Miserables and We Will Rock you. Chris performed many songs including a solo piece in Grease Lightning and Mr Jones Director Music was very impressed with
his performance. There is a link to a short video provided by Mr Jones of the concert

Winter Mountaineering
Well done to
Dom Marsh and Myles Everett who passed an arduous Winter mountaineering course
over the half term break in Fort William Scotland. In deep snow and chilly
temperatures they learnt about winter safety, equipment, navigation, ice axe
skills and rope work. The
course was run by professional instructors from the Snowgoose mountain centre
and each day built on the previous day's training, culminating with the whole
group taking part in a full quality winter mountain day. Myles and Dom
are also able to use this trip and qualification towards gaining their Gold DofE award.
