Head of House and Fane Award

Always one of the hardest descisions as a Housemaster to make, with two really strong candidates, both with a good set of skills it was always going to be a tough choice. So I was delighted to announce at last nights end of term meal

Michael Glover and Kit Bowerin as Joint Head of House for 2012-13.

I wish them both well.

Fane Award - an award for a Y9 pupil who is a true House man, a good character and fully involved in all aspects of school life, this year goes to a deserving winner Greg Cooke.

Carolyn, Matthew, Sophie and I wish all Everett pupils and their families a relaxing and enjoyable summer holiday.

Y9 Activity week

This week the Y9 Everett pupils had a busy time on and off site. Monday saw them travel to Longridge activity centre for kayaking, rafting and a big swing. Tuesday they spent the morning with the CCF in 3 team building exercises, obstacle course, pool session and raft construction. On Wednesday they set off on their Bronze DofE practice expedition, walking, navigating, camping and cooking. I have to say Thursday night was nice and quiet when they eventually returned, exhausted, but I think they all enjoyed the week.

Marksman Success

CCF Field Day Y10
A very enjoyable and successful day at Longmoor Ranges on the 25m Barrack Range. This is the first time, in at least 8 years, that Shiplake College CCF have had enough suitably qualified staff to be able to run a  independent live fire range for the CCF and we hope that this is the first of many more. Over the course of the day, thirty six members of Year 10 CCF  shot 30 rounds each in a series of different range practices from grouping and zeroing to rapid and snap shoots, with most managing to score high enough to ‘pass’ as marksman and some even qualifying for a marksmanship badge.
1st Class shot – P Green
1st Class shot – C Galligan
1st Class shot – M Chandler
1st Class shot – C McGuigan
2nd Class shot – R Simpson
2nd Class shot - D Marsh
2nd Class shot - M Everett
2nd Class shot - J Mottram
2nd Class shot - W Tse
2nd Class shot - W Yeates
The weather held out and it was a great day for shooting and I hope that we have developed and enthusiasm that we can continue to develop and that we are able to run many more such events.

Half Term

It was good to welcome all the boys back after half term, glad to see there was lots of work done by Y11 and all seemed to have enjoyed the break. It certainly passed quickly and now there are just two and a half weeks to go until the end of the academic year!
National Schools Regatta – there were lots of Everett boys involved in racing on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All competed well in some tough races with many qualifying for finals. However special mention must go to our medal winners, Silver for Will Urquhart in the J14B octuple and Bronze for Oran Mehmet in the 3rd XIII; well done.
For those not at NSR the last day of term saw a BBQ lunch and then ice cream and games on the front field, with everyone sporting a red, white and blue theme. Out and out winner of best dressed went to Tosh Farnborough pictured below with Karen.
Not quite as competitive as the rowing, but hard fought none the less were the egg and spoon and sack races. In the egg and spoon event Everett A team Myles Everett, Kit Bowerin, Freddie Lang and Anthony Miarli came second, whilst the Everett A sack team of James Baker, Ben Markham, Donal Borg-Neal and Kit Bowerin also finished second!  Unfortunately the Everett B team in both events, Matthew and Sophie Lawson, came last, but they tried!
