Sucess in House Cross Country standards
Everett House ran superbly in the first Cross Country Standards event. The girls and seniors came second, whilst the juniors won their competition, giving Everett overall victory.
The results were decided on average times for all runners, so it was truly a House effort.
However the following should be congratulated :-
Sam Colman – Top 10 finish on the longer Senior run and 3rd in his year!
Jamie Mottram – Excellent debut performance to come top 3 in Juniors!
Anthony Miarli – Despite not having his favoured footwear, he came 6th!
Anna Proctor – 3rd best girl overall and 2nd in her year!

CCF Field Day
A large number of Everett pupils took part in varied and exciting activities on CCF Field Day this week. The RN cadets travelled down to HMS Bristol spending overnight on board, before transferring to our parent establishment base HMS Collingwood. Here they were given a tour and demonstration of new weapons systems, before being put to the test on practical leadership tasks and a low ropes course. The Army and RAF sections travelled to Bramley training area, basha building, first aid, section attacks, cooking in the field and a night patrol were among the training stands on offer. However the highlight for some lucky Y11 and 12 cadets was a trip in Lynx helicopter provided by the Army Air Corps.

House Football round 2
Another closely contested round of House football took place yesterday afternoon. The Juniors played first in an end to end game, we had the upper hand for most of the match, with fine performances from Grun, Miarli, Orchard and Taylor. But in the end we had to settle for the draw 3-3, Max Chandler is pictured here heading into the box to set up a fine scoring opportunity. The seniors outplayed their Welsh opponents, but Welsh had a run of luck and took the most of their opportunities to edge them out 5-4 in a thrilling match.
Mufti Day
Last Friday the House raised over £70 for the Kikunduku Schools we support as a College in Kenya. A range of casual clothes were seen, from comfortable beach attire, through fashion conscious branded tops to a rather unusual 'Monkey' suit sported by Jack Madden, much to the amusement of the Headmaster - although I think he did suffer with the heat.

House Football
Recently the house football teams took on Burr in the first round of the inter House competition. A close fought, end to end match saw the juniors run out deserved winners 4-3. The seniors took and early lead, but a couple of quick and well taken shots on goal gave Burr the edge and despite a late rally, the seniors lost a keenly contested game 4-2. Harry Orford was official photographer for the day and I am sure you will all agree this shot shows off his artistic talents.

Start of term
Apologies for the lack of posts so far this term - problems with google account settings!
The new term has got off to a great start, our new pupils have settled in well and the House has real a 'buzz' of activity. Theyear 9 had a challenging but fun evning on the 'Lynch' building their own shelters and cooking their own supper. All the House enjoyed a series of bonding activities at the end of the first week, the human table football being the most popular, but archery threw up a few suprises for many as they found a new skill!

Full music colours to olly Fogden, half colours to David hawes and Fred mallin. Olly Berry was awarded Full Arts colours as was Jamie MacLeod (plus a special drama award); Cheskie Leach and James Wilson half drama colours. The House also picked up Junior and Senior house Athletics standards and Junior House athletic championship cup. We came a close second in the Baldry trophy, just reward for all the boys and girls efforts on the sporting front this year.
House swimming gala
Everett took to the pool Tuesday afternoon to compete in the House swimming gala. As ever the Juniors gave their all and competed really well. Although lacking in numbers, the seniors also fought hard. The dark horse of the afternoon was Dani van der Lely who suprised many with his sheer speed in the relay events.

Y9 Adventure week
The year 9 had a welcome break from lessons this week. They took part in a walking and camping trip over two days, then spent a morning learning about the CCF, teamwork and leadership skills. The wettest day - mainly because of the awful weather was spent at Longridge activity center where they built rafts, paddled kayaks and did a bit of bell boating. All of them enjoyed the week, although their rooms are now full of wet and smelly games kit!

Work experience week.
This week our Y12 have had to experience a taste of the real world and get out of bed and do an honest day's work. Dr Snellgrove Head of Careers visited many in their work placements this week. He told staff that "I've just visited all of the Y12 listed below who are on their work experience week in Reading. All have been reported on favourably by their employers and all seem to be enjoying themselves. I think those that are involved in retail have realised just how hard the recession is hitting! " Pictured here are Will Pulford at Grosvenor Motor Company and Louis Tindall at Animal Clothing.

Athletic Championships
A fantastic afternoon of very competitive running, throwing and jumping. Everett did themselves proud, I was particularly pleased with the efforts of Y11 many of whom filled in for missing or injured Seniors. However the Juniors must be congratulated on winning their House competition with a clutch of medals and a new school record. All ran well but Anthony Miarli and Sam Coleman were the stars. Well done to David for organising the team.
