Everett pupils are expected to attend and it would be lovely to see as many families there as possible. The service will be followed by tea and coffee in the OVR and should finish in plenty of time for families to go out for lunch and enjoy the rest of the day together.
I look forward to seeing you there.

Kind regards
Grant Lawson

Merry Christmas

Grant, Carolyn, Matthew and Sophie wish all of the Everett pupils and their families a very Merry Christmas.

Winners

Congratulations to Y9 and Y10, all of whom were involved in the Junior House Rugby today. The RN cadets travelled down to HMS Bristol spending overnight on board, before transferring to our parent establishment base HMS Collingwood. They took part in a walking and camping trip over two days, then spent a morning learning about the CCF, teamwork and leadership skills. The wettest day - mainly because of the awful weather was spent at Longridge activity center where they built rafts, paddled kayaks and did a bit of bell boating. All of them enjoyed the week, although their rooms are now full of wet and smelly games kit!

Work experience week.

This week our Y12 have had to experience a taste of the real world and get out of bed and do an honest day's work. Everett did themselves proud, I was particularly pleased with the efforts of Y11 many of whom filled in for missing or injured Seniors. However the Juniors must be congratulated on winning their House competition with a clutch of medals and a new school record. All ran well but Anthony Miarli and Sam Coleman were the stars. Well done to David for organising the team.

<img style="WIDTH: 320px; Every pupil competes in 4 track and two field events and depending on time and distance score standards for their House, everybody contributes to the overall results making this a true House event. I was really pleased to see us come joint 2nd overall. Well done to the Juniors who won their category, the Seniors came 3rd and the Girls a creditable 4th despite several girls being off games. I have been remiss in keeping this blog up to date I am afraid. So the news in brief - Well done to the Seniors on winning the Interhouse hockey competition. Well done to all our rowers, 2nd place in the Interhouse rowing, and a special mention to the victorious J14 quad pictured above. David, Oliver, Fred, Bella, Cheska, Cheskie, Alex N, Olly B, Myles, Dom and James all performed magnificently in the Spring Concert. Finally a huge well done to Cameron and Teddy on their appointment as School Prefects for 2011-2012. I wish all of Everett House and their families a great Easter Holiday.

Congratulations

I was delighted that this week David Hawes, our Head of House was made a School Prefect. With a tough draw their first match was against Welsh. Half time saw the score 0-0. We came out in the second half and dominated possession for a while pulling away 2 - 0. Orchard equalised, and then agonisingly shot a later winner in the last minutes of the game 2 - 4 the final score. After some intensive coaching during January and in the Autumn Term. All crews performed exceptionally well powering down the 3km aided by a strong tailwind and despite a few racing incidents all crews returned in high spirits eagerly anticipating the results. They were not to be disappointed with the J14 A Octuple finishing in second place behind local rivals Reading Blue Coat School. The B and C Octuple also recorded pleasing results finishing 17th and 20th. The J15 A Eight also raced at Hampton and they are beginning to show real signs of progress finishing 14th in a very strong field (Gus, Oran, Tom H, Sam, Peter B). Although much work is still needed to be done to improve technical skills the coaches were impressed with what has been achieved so far.

House Music

The whole of Everett got behind Head of House David Hawes and were in good voice and spirits for the House singing competition. Jonnie B Goode was sung with gusto and rhythmic clapping by the whole House. This was followed by an entertaining rendition of 'Stacey's Mum' performed by Y11 to 13 with Tom Clark strutting his stuff as the lady in question, ruffling quite a few feathers in the audience. I hope all Everett pupils will donate at least £2.00 for this worthy cause.
I have copied his assembly address below.

Good morning
This Friday we are holding a home clothes day for the whole school. The purpose is to raise money for charity and the charity this Friday is Great Ormand Street Children’s Hospital. I am here to talk to you about why we should help support Great Ormand Street Hospital.
Great Ormand Street has been on the front line of medical research ever since it was set up. For example it has discovered techniques for stopping your heart but still keeping you alive whilst they are operating on you.
As some of you will know, last summer I had a life saving heart operation. However, this was not the first time my life has been saved by Great Ormand Street.
The biggest thing that has happened to me is that I have had my aorta replaced. The aorta is the major blood vessel that allows blood to be pumped from your heart, around your body. Without this operation I would not have survived. I, and many other young people, owe a great deal to Great Ormand Street.
When I was in Great Ormand Street last, I saw people with even worse conditions than me. Some with conditions that affect only one child in a million. Great Ormand Street is their final hope. Some are not so lucky as one of the kids in the room next to me died at the age of three months. You never know, her cure could have been one test tube away. That is why I am asking you to help this Friday by bringing two pounds out of your own pocket to donate to Great Ormand Street. It is a quick and easy way for us to help contribute to their research. Perhaps that extra little bit of research with that extra test tube that we pay for, may save just one life.
If it were not for Great Ormand Street I would certainly not be here today, able to talk to you. I hope that we can help some other children with our donation this Friday.
Thank you for listening.

House Art

At the beginning of term an impressive display of Art appeared in the Great Hall, a huge variety of style and media were entered in the annual House Art Competition. The Art Department invited Alan Henderson sculptor and digital art specialist to judge the competition. Many Everett pupils took part and it was great to see how much effort they had all put in. Special mention must go to the following pupils : Myles Everett the winning entry in Year 9, one of the print prizes went to Rowland Young and photography prizes went to Harry Orford and Ollie Fogden. Totalling up the points gave overall victory to Everett in the 2011 House Competition.

Merry Christmas

Grant, Carolyn, Matthew and Sophie Lawson

Wish everyone in Everett House

A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Nativity

Last night saw the first performance of the school and local community 'Nativity'. An energetic production from start to finish involved several Everett pupils and Mr Brownley as a talking donkey! Cheskie Leach had a leading role as Mary and she held the stage well, whilst James Wilson looked slightly nervous as he perched on the back of a real life Camel as one of the three Kings. Zacchy Mettawa as a shepherd, Rob Brown as one of King Herod's henchmen and Michael Green in the chorus all also performed well. In the background Bella Le Blanc as ever gave a great performance in the choir and Chesca Kowles equally versatile back stage. This term Everett has proven itself on the cultural and sporting and academic front. Despite the snow and ice, a packed sports hall listened to an eclectic mix of classical music, carols and a spirited rendition of Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance with Somebody. Everett girls Cheskie Leach and Cheska Knowles vocals got the audience clapping and the year 7 boys swaying. Bella leBlanc and Olly Berry seemed to enjoy the girls choirs rendition of Santa Claus is coming to town. Whilst Oliver Fogden, David Hawes and Dom Marsh and Myles Everett all played in a variety of pieces, Fred Mallin showed his versatility singing in the choir sang and playing his guitar in the soul band. All of them proving Everett's talents are not confined to the sports field.

Winners again!!

Monday afternoon was a challenging run in the cross country championship. But chilly winds and icy conditions underfoot didn't put off the Everett athletes. A fantastic effort from the whole House saw us win the Combined Standards, Junior Standards and Girls Standards and fourth place in the Seniors. Cheska Knowles came third in the girls event, but all our girls did us proud, alongside some strong running from the Juniors. The seniors were beset by injuries but all the runners counted, including a brave run from Greg Buchan who was determined to finish coming in at the back of the field despite a painful back injury.

Cross Country Triumph

In today's first cross country standards Everett House came first overall in the combined standards. Despite a couple of strong runners being off games, the seniors finished third overall
in their competition. The Everett girls did really well, coming home ahead of many junior boys with Chesca finishing 2nd, Cheskie 5th, Bella 6th and Alex 12th in their competition, 2nd place overall in the girls event. Conditions were not great, a light drizzle and cold winds meant slippy conditions underfoot. Despite this the first game against Skipwith was an entertaining affair, solid defence combined with good passing and plenty of work off the ball resulted in a 4-0 win. The second game against Welsh was end to end stuff, Welsh took an early lead, but we soon levelled the score, Welsh went 3 - 1 up with a dubious goal that didn't appear to cross the line. we fought back well and scored another goal, but unfortunately the final whistle went as we pressed for an equaliser. All 8 players contributed to a great team effort, but leading by example Captain Markus Grun scored 4 goals, Anthony Miarli 2 and Max Chandler a thumping penalty that the keeper had no hope of saving.

Children in Need

This Friday Everett House in conjunction with the rest of the school will be raising money for Children in Need. Everett have done themselves proud.

The Juniors scored 14 goals over four matches, they won two games and lost two, placing them third overall. The Seniors narrowly missed out on glory, they scored 15 goals, won two and drew two to finish level on points with Burr, but unfortunately lost out on goal difference to finish second. Winning isn't everyting I know and we should also be proud of the way both teams played, good sportmanship, a great spirit and plenty of support form the rest of the house on the touchlines. Two very competitively fought games and loads of support from the sidelines made me proud to be Everett Housemaster. our Junior side fought hard all the way, with strong running, good passing and excellent defence to run out winners 6-5 over Burr. Only a great performance by the Burr goalie prevented more goals, but Alex Sanderson and Max Chandler both got hat tricks. The senior game was end to end stuff, with the lead constantly changing hands. Hannah, an Everett girl, is helping organise this. It would be great if some Everett families could be there to give thanks for their mums! The dress for the pupils will be smart casual - I hope to see some of you there!

Moving on to Sunday 21st March. This is when the Bishop of Oxford, the Rt Revd John Pritchard will be joining us at the college to lead the service in the parish church at 11.30 a.m. This is not a Confirmation Service but a Holy Communion Service and we will be joined by the parishioners of Shiplake Church. This is Bishop John’s first visit to the college. I appreciate that this is a more difficult time than the Mothering service but it would be great if we could have a good student turnout for one of the most senior figures in the Church of England.

The Summer of '69

'Those were the best days of your life!'

Well it might not have been quite that much fun but the whole House did have a great time this afternoon in the Inter-House Music competition.
